Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purify and process particulate and NOX in exhaust gas at a high purification rate.
SOLUTION: A particulate filter 22 to collect particulate in the exhaust gas is arranged in an engine exhaust passage. An oxidation catalyst is carried on the particulate filter. A NOX purifying catalyst 43 to purify NOX is arranged in the engine exhaust passage on the upstream side of the particulate filter.
