PURPOSE: To obtain a styrene polymer which can give a foam having a fine and uniform cell structure by mixing a styrene polymer with a 3-6C hydrocarbon, an organic bromine compound, an ammonium salt and a specified organic amine.
CONSTITUTION: A styrene polymer containing 0.005-0.5 mol% crosslinking agent, having a styrene content of 50 wt.% and having a mean particle diameter of 0.1-6 mm is mixed with 1-10 wt.% blowing agent being a 3-6C hydrocarbon (e.g. butane), 0.4-6 wt.% flame retardant being an organic bromine compound (e.g. hexabromocyclododecane), 0.00001-0.1 wt.% ammonium salt (e.g. NH4Cl) and 0.001-0.1 wt.% organic amine selected among amines of the formula [wherein R1 is a 4-20C (cyclo)alkyl; R2 or R3 are H or a 1-15C (cyclo)alkyl, and R1 is a 6-20C (cycloalkyl when R2 or R are each H), products of the oxyalkylation of 1-20C prim. or sec. amines or ammonia and 2,4-diamino-1,3,5- triazine which has a 1-20C alkyl in position 6, whose hydrogen atom in position ωmay be substituted by 2,4-diamino-1,3,5-triazin-6-yl and which has a 5-12C alkyl or a 6-12C aryl.
