Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion device for a bridge, generally generating vibration and noise, not so much as conventional ones.
SOLUTION: The expansion device for the bridge comprises opposed comb type finger portions 1 arranged across a joint opening 2 for supporting the wheel load of travelling vehicles and absorbing the expansion of the joint opening 2 in the direction of a bridge axis due to a temperature change. The opposed finger portions 1 each have a fixed finger portion 6 fixed to a bridge member on one side of the joint opening 2 and a movable finger portion 8 arranged on the bridge member on the other side of the joint opening 2 and displaceable perpendicularly to the bridge axis. The movable finger portion 8 is connected to the bridge member via an elastic member 12 in a resilient condition, thereby suppressing the displacement of the movable finger portion 8 perpendicular to the bridge axis during the general travel of vehicles and permitting the movable finger portion 8 relatively displaced perpendicularly to the bridge axis with earthquake to be reset to an original position by the elastic resilience of the elastic member 12.
