To provide an expiration date information notification system and an expiration date notification method which enable a consumer to obtain notification of an expiration date for use of a commodity, expiration date for consumption of food or the like by a simple procedure.

An expiration date information notification system 1 comprises: communication means 11 for performing transmission and reception of mails for portable phones; storage means 14 for storing information of received mails as a database; and information processing means 13 which controls the communication means and the storage means, and also processes information of mails in predetermined order. When the communication means receives a mail from a portable phone which has read a matrix type two-dimensional bar code attached to a commodity, the information processing means stores each received date and reception effective date in association with its mail address in the database, every day determines whether an effective date has passed on the basis of a reception date of each data in the database, and notifies a portable phone of a mail address of corresponding data that it is an expiration date of a commodity.
