Title:
EXTERNAL MONITORING DEVICE HAVING FAIL/SAFE FUNCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3312729
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external monitoring device which securely executes fail/safe decision by deciding a fail when the size of calculated luminance is large than a decision value and the calculated number of edges is smaller than the decision value.
SOLUTION: A fail decision part 12 reads distance data on an image-picked up picture and the luminance values of pixels from a distance data memory 7 and an original picture memory 8. A luminance average value indicating the size of whole luminance in a first monitoring area is calculated. It is judged whether an image blur occurs or not, based on the luminance of a first monitoring area. For certifying the presence or absence of the image blur, the number of edges in the first monitoring area is calculated. It is judged whether the calculated number of edges is smaller than a prescribed decision threshold or not. Even if the image blur occurs in the image-picked up picture, a system can execute fail/safe judgment which precisely corresponds to the blur with comparatively less operation quantity and therefore safety can high- dimensionally be secured.
