PURPOSE: To provide a facing machine for easily, rapidly and precisely correcting a polishing surface plate which has been used for a polishing machine and which requires facing due to deformation.

CONSTITUTION: A dial gage 6 and a cutting tool 7 and a guide device adapted to be led onto a polishing surface plate 8 are attached to a machine frame 1 at positions other than the position of a disc bed 2 for attaching the polishing surface plate 8 to be subjected to facing, which is rotated by a motor 5, to the machine frame 1. When facing is carried out, the surface plate 8 is attached to the disc bed. The dial gage 6 and the cutting tool 7 are set to the surface plate 8, and a deformation of the surface plate is examined by the dial gage 6, and then the cutting tool 7 is set to an optimum height while the disc bed 2 is rotated. During the rotation of the surface plate 8, the motor 5 is driven so as to move the cutting tool 7 along the guide device, and accordingly, a deformed part on the surface plate 8 is corrected.
