PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of data transmitted to the center side, by providing a character recognizing section, and providing a memory storing a character code of a recognized character and an image data of character not recognized.

CONSTITUTION: The facsimile device 9 is provided with a character reconizing section 16, a character memory such as character buffer 17 storing a character code corresponding to a recognized character recognized at the character recognzing section 16, and an image memory such as an image buffer 19 storing the image data as it is of the character not recognized at the recognizing section 16. Thus, the data transmitted from the device 9 to the center side is all coded and transmitted for the character subjected to the character recognition.
