To provide a facsimile equipment which can discriminate whether or not a picture is an abnormal image containing vertical block stripes and the like in a state where an original is read on a transmission side and to provide the abnormality discrimination method of the read picture.

In the facsimile equipment, the image of the original which is read in an auxiliary scanning direction by a scanner part 4 is rotated by 90 degrees by a rotation processing part 9 and it is accumulated in an image accumulation memory 8. A main control part 7 detects a black image element in a main scanning direction from the accumulated image. When the number of the detected black image elements in the main scanning direction is not less than a threshold, the black stripe is discriminated to exist and the effect of the abnormal picture is displayed on a display part 2.
