PURPOSE: To prevent the transmission even when a white paper page is set by providing a white paper page discrimination means to the facsimile equipment.

CONSTITUTION: Picture information for at least one page or over read by an original read means 1 is stored in a storage means 2. Then a black picture element number count means 3 detects whether or not a black picture element is in existence in the unit of bytes and number of black photoelectric conversion elements is counted. Then number of black picture elements counted by a white paper page discrimination means 4 is compared with a preset threshold number thereby discriminating whether the page is white paper or not. When the page is not white paper, the page is sent to an opposite party by a transmission means 5. When the paper is white paper, the display to instruct whether or not the information is sent to, e.g. the operator is implemented and the transmission is started or the transmission is stopped by the instruction. Thus, even when the original is set while its front side is turned over in mistake, since the page of the white paper is not sent, waste such as the transmission cost, the transmission time and recording paper or the like is saved.
