PURPOSE: To control a facsimile equipment corresponding to the surrounding situation by detecting the surrounding brightness by means of a sensor so as to shift to a power saving mode when this output becomes not more than a prescribed value.
CONSTITUTION: When power is supplied, whether the equipment is under the operation of transmission or reception is discriminated and when it is in a transmitting or receiving state, normal transmitting or receiving operation is executed. But when it is in a not-operating state, the surrounding brightness of the facsimile equipment is detected from the optical sensor 7 to discriminate whether the brightness is not more than the prescribed value. At the time of not more than the prescribed value, the equipment is shifted to the power saving mode and a power source OFF command Poff is outputted to turn off the power source of a recording part 5 and a printing part to make them into a stand-by state. At this time, from where and whether facsimile incomes is judged and at the time of incoming, the power saving mode is finished and a normal receiving operation is executed. At the time of not incoming, whether the surrounding brightness is not less than the regulated value, is judged by the optical sensor 7 and when the brightness is not less than the regulated value, the power saving mode is finished. Thereby, the equipment is capable to correspond to the surrounding situation by not limiting to only the power saving state.
