PURPOSE: To fasten an end member to an open end firmly by inserting an outwardly bent part formed on an open end of the shell of a container into an annular formed part formed outside of the periphery of panel part of an end member, bending the outer wall of the annular part to upper inside, and sticking it close to the shell of the container.
CONSTITUTION: After inserting the upper open end of the shell 7 of a container into an annular formed part 6 so that the curled part 4 of an end member 1 and the outwardly curved part 8 of the shell 7 of the container are opposed to each other, it is placed on a lifter plate 10. Then, the shell 7 is raised by rotation of a drive gear 11, and the inner wall 3 and curled part 4 of the end member 1 are engaged with the side peripheral face 17a of lower projection 17 of a fixed chuck 15 and an annular groove 16 respectively. While the curled part 4 and groove 16 are being engaged, a curling plate 18 is raised, and outside 5 of the end member 1 is bent to upper inside along the curling groove 19, and inserted to inside of curved part 8 to fasten the end member 1 and shell 7. The plate 18 is then lowered, and moved outward radially, and the shell 7 to which the end member 1 is fastened is lowered to orginal position.
