NEW MATERIAL:Compounds expressed by formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is H, 1-6C lower alkylcarbonyl or aromatic carbonyl) and salts thereof.
USE: A hypotensive agent having inhibitory action on angiotensin I converting enzymes.
PREPARATION: For example, Pinelliae Tuber is extracted with an organic solvent such as methanol or acetone and the solvent is then distilled away from the resultant extract solution. The obtained residue is subsequently dissolved in hydrous methanol and then extracted with a low polar solvent such as n-hexane or petroleum ether and the solvent is subsequently distilled away from a hydrous methanol layer to provide a residue, which is then subjected to column chromatography using water, methanol, etc., as an eluting solvent and fractionated to afford the objective compounds expressed by formula I and salts thereof. Compounds expressed by formula II (n1 and n2 are 3-8) and salts thereof are also similarly obtained.
