Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve accuracy in making decision when an atmospheric air open/close valve is closed at the time of establishing a specified decision making condition and detecting a leaking condition by a purging duty by setting the purging duty to a specified fixed value when the condition for making a decision is realized.
CONSTITUTION: A passage 20 communicating with the intake passage 4 and the fuel tank 8 of an internal combustion engine 2 is provided with a canister 12 which adsorbs evaporation fuel, while the canister 12 has an atmospheric air open/close valve 30 provided in connection thereto. A control unit 24 closes the atmospheric air open/close valve 30 when the specified condition for making decision is established and maintains a fuel tank 8 interior at a negative pressure by the purging duty. On the other hand, the purging duty is set to zero when the pressure in the fuel tank 8 interior has reached the specified value and the leaking condition is detected by the variation of the pressure after it has stopped. At this time, when the condition for making decision is established, the purging duty is set to a specified fixed value which varies by the temperature and the fuel remaining quantity.
