Title:
Fe SERIES ALLOY MATERIAL FOR THIXOCASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3876099
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of cracks even in the case of a product having a thin or slender shape by strengthening the chill structure causing the generation of cracks at the time of solidification and shrinkage in the material, moreover improving its toughness.
SOLUTION: In an Fe series alloy material for thixocasting having a composition containing, by weight, 1.8 to 2.5% C, 1.0 to 3.0% Si and 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and 10 to 50% eutectic quantity Ec, Cr is contained by 0.1 to 1.0%. Cr carbides are produced in a liquid phase to strengthen the chill structure after casting, and austenite remains in a solid phase part by Cr in the solid phase to improve its toughness, so that the generation of cracks at the time of solidification and shrinkage can be prevented.
