PURPOSE: To improve productivity of a feed device of steel bar cutting machine by predicting/operating the condition on a collecting skid which is varied as a long size steel bar is sent in from cooling floor and then up to picking up.

CONSTITUTION: The groove position, at which the first groove of a transfer 4 moving from downstream to upstream and the final groove of next unit to be simultaneously cut on a collecting skid 3 from upstream to downstream are intersected at the same time, is predicted and operated, it is made to a fetching groove position. When the transfer 4 takes out the preceding unit to a cutting machine incoming side table 5, a fetching groove position of next unit is operated. An arithmetic unit transmits the information of fetching groove position operated to a position controlling unit. The position control unit moves the transfer 4 to the position of transfer 4a, the first groove is aligned to a fourth groove of the fetching groove position. The arithmetic unit transmits a transfer ascending instruction to the take out controlling unit, the transfer 4a is ascended to the position of transfer 4b and then descended.
