PURPOSE: To guide the upper end of printing paper properly in the direction of a cut-sheet feeder by shifting a printer to approximately the center of printing paper, feeding printing paper while holding printing paper by a paper press fitted to the printer and transferring the printer to a predetermined position required for the next printing operation.

CONSTITUTION: When a line-feed command is outputted with the completion of the printing operation of the first line, a carriage 26 is moved to the central section of printing paper from the position of completion of printing first. A micro-computer 7 computes a distance up to the central section of paper from a home position on the basis of previously inputted paper size at that time, thus holding printing paper by a paper press mounted to the carriage 26. Accordingly, the central section of paper is held by the paper press for the carriage in case of paper-feed on line-feed, thus adequately guiding printing paper in the direction of a cut-sheet feeder without using a paper bail roller, a sheet guide, etc.
