PURPOSE: To obtain new ferrocene-contg. charge transfer complexes excellent in electric conductivity and stability and useful for electrically conductive films, foil, coating films, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The ferrocene-contg. charge transfer complexes are compds. of formula I {A is a compd. of formula II [R is H or 1-4C alkyl, the adjacent R's, taken together, may be -(CH2)3- or -(CH2)4-; R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl; X1 is =N-CN; and X2-X4 are =O or =N-CN] or a mixture of compds. of the formula II and B is a ferrocene or an indenyl deriv. whose reduction potential E1/2 is <0.41 V, based on the standard calomel electrode}. The compds. of the formula I are obtd., e.g. by reacting equimolar amts. of a ferrocene deriv. and a pentacenecyanoimine of formula II with each other in an inert solvent. When the compds. of the formula I are incorporated in the form of a network structure of acicular crystals in a thermosetting, thermoplastic or structurally crosslinked polymer or a matrix of the polymer, a compsn. excellent in antistatic performance is obtd.
