Title:
FIBER CREEP METHOD FOR COATED OPTICAL FIBER RIBBON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06317721
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To simply, easily and exactly align front ends of the fibers of a high- density coated optical fiber ribbon to a straight form by exposing these fibers to a prescribed length, then fitting the fibers into the V-grooves of jigs with many V-grooves, expanding the front ends thereof to a prescribed pitch and rectilinearly cutting the front ends of the fibers.

CONSTITUTION: The coatings at the front ends the high-density coated optical fiber ribbon A are removed to expose the fibers 1 to the prescribed length. The front ends are fitted and fixed into the V-groove of the jig 2 with the V-groove and are cut rectilinearly by an ordinary cutter along the flank of the jig 2. The fibers 1 and the fibers 3 of the low-density existing coated optical fiber ribbon B are thereafter fitted and fixed into the V-grooves of the fixing jibs 4, 5 of a fusion device. The fibers 1 of the coated fiber A are previously expanded to the prescribed pitch and are rectilinearly cut and, therefore, the front ends thereof are aligned straight when the fibers are mounted in the fixing jig 4. Then, the front ends of both fibers are uniformly butted against each other when the both coated fiber ribbons A, B are mounted in the fusion device and are butted.
