Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable the transmission of an infrared light image or the like by using a bundle of metallic halide fibers transmitting infrared light as a fiber light guide such as an infrared light image guide and by forming a clad layer with a specified polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed crystals of TlBr-TlI selected from metallic halides are melted and spun by means of an extruder to form bundles 1, 11 of fibers transmitting infrared light. A polymer for clad layers for the bundles 1, 11 is selected from polyethylene resin and tetrafluoroethylene resin. For example, both ends 2 of the image guide or the whole outside 12 is coated with molten tetrafluoroethylene resin to form a clad layer. Thus, a fiber light guide for infrared light is obtd.
