Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a field emission cathode and a manufacturing method of the cathode.
CONSTITUTION: This cathode comprises cathode layers 12, 13 formed into prescribed patterns on a substrate 11, an insulating layer 15 formed on the upper faces of the cathode layers 12, 13 and having a large number of pin holes 17, and a field emission tip 14 installed in the pin holes and electrically connected to cathode layers 12, 13. The end part of each field emission tip 14 is formed to be a crator-like circular shape. Consequently, as compared with that of a conventional field emission tip, the surface area of the electron emission is widened and the electron emitting property can be improved.
