Abstract:
To provide a fixing device that can efficiently heat a belt performing slide fixing with a frictional force between a pressure member and the belt, estimate a torque increase value from the temperature of the belt at that time, and predict the accurate life of the fixing device, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A life diagnosis control unit 400 of a fixing device 200 comprises: drive control means 405 that, when a life diagnostic timing is determined to be reached after transition from a heating time to a cooling time and a temperature environment is determined to be suitable for life diagnosis, and thus heating by a heat source is not performed for a predetermined period, drives to rotate a pressure roller and a fixing belt without heating; life diagnosis means 406 that diagnoses whether the fixing device reaches the end of its life on the basis of a change in temperature of the fixing belt during the predetermined period and a life diagnosis temperature set in advance; and life notification means 407 that, when the fixing device is determined to reach the end of its life, notifies a user of the effect.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
