To provide a flat platy silver halide emulsion having good filterability in spite of a high aspect ratio and to provide a high sensitivity photographic sensitive material using the emulsion and excellent in productivity.

The silver halide emulsion contains acicular silver halide grains having 0.05-1 μm length in the minor axis direction, 5-30 μm length in the major axis direction and ≤25% coefficient of variation in length in the major axis direction as deformed grains by 50-500 ppm based on the total number of all grains and contains flat platy silver halide grains having ≥0.3 μm average equivalent circular diameter and an aspect ratio (equivalent circular diameter to thickness ratio) of 5-100 by ≥50% of the total projected area of all silver halide grains. The photographic sensitive material contains the emulsion.
