PURPOSE: To project a high quality color picture by comprising a phosphor screen with reference color stripes provided in the screen direction through guard stripes and conductive stripes connected to the guard stripes and detecting index signals from these stripes.

CONSTITUTION: A transparent target electrode 4 and a phosphor screen are formed on a substrate 6. Guard stripes 21 that function as black stripes and are comprised with a carbon coat are arranged between every R.G.B. primary colors stripes or between every pairs of R.G.B. stripes. Conductive stripes 22, 22... are provided on the guard stripes 21 and are connected conductively 23 on both ends of the respective stripes and then are led outside from an end 24 through a lead wire 25. The lead wire 25 is electrically connected to a sealing pin 28 at the bottom of a neck tube through deposition wiring 26 provided at the inner bottom of a rear container 2 and wiring 27 provided on the inner surface of the neck tube. As a result, high reliability index signals can be led.
