Abstract:
The dual circuit pneumatic brakes for the lorry and trailer have a brake control valve in the coupling to the trailer brakes. A flow restriction monitors the air flow to the trailer brakes, with the pressure difference across the restriction operating the trailer brakes, ie if the line to the trailer is cut then the hold-off brakes on the trailer are applied rapidly. The valve monitors the trailer and unit brake pressures and controls the trailer brakes in such a way that they are applied momentarily before the unit brakes ie the rate of brake application is faster on the trailer. After a set pressure is reached the rate of application is modulated so that braking stability is maintained.
