PURPOSE: To provide a fluid type sodium-sulfur battery which can supply active material to reaction region according to progress of battery reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Molten sodium 9 of anode active material and molten sulfur 10 of cathode active material are filled in storage containers 11 and 12 respectively. These active materials are supplied to a container 14 having solid electrolyte 13 as a separating wall 13 with pumps 15 and 16 to form a battery. Terminal voltage and current across electrodes 4 and 5 are detected, and when discharge is finished, cathode active material in the container 14 is let to flow out to a storage container 17 and fresh cathode active material is supplied from the storage container 12. Anode active material is supplied from the storage container 11 to the container 14. When active material required for battery reaction is continuously supplied, discharge voltage is kept constant.
