Title:
FLUORINATED IONNEXCHANGE POLYMER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS53132090
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
New polymer contains the links of formula (I): In the formula, m=0, 1 or 2; p=1-10; q=3-15; the X gps. taken together = 4F atoms or 3F atoms and 1 Cl atom; Y=F or CF; R = H, lower alkyl or M1/t M=alkali(ne earth) metal ammonium or quaternary ammonium; and t= the valency of M. Used as ion exchange films and membrane for chlorine-alkali; electrolysis cells giving high current yields and thus inducing the cost per unit Cl2 and caustic alkali produced. The fluoro polymer must have a total ion exchange capacity of 0.5-1.6, pref. 0.8-1.3 milliequivalents when used in electrolysis cells, and the values of p and q are such that the equivalent wt. of the polymer is not >2000, pref. is not >1500.
