To provide a focus detecting device capable of highly precisely detecting the focusing state of an imaging optical system corresponding to light (light source) from a subject, and to provide an imaging apparatus.
The focus detecting device splits a luminous flux from an imaging lens, thereby forming at least one pair of images, has a light receiving element for photo-electrically converting at least the pair of images, and detects the focusing state of the imaging lens based on a signal from the light receiving element. In the direction of the depth of the same position, the light receiving element has a first light receiving area in which the light receiving element senses light in a first wavelength area, and a second light receiving area in which the light receiving element senses light in a second wavelength area, which is different from the first wavelength area. Based on signals from the first and second light receiving areas, the focus detecting device obtains the first and second focusing states, respectively, of the imaging lens.
