Abstract:

To provide a folding mechanism for a wheelchair which can be simply and stably folded and which has a high efficiency.

A slide member 10 is relatively movably provided in a pair of main frames 6 which support wheels 2, 3 and which extend in a longitudinal direction. The member 10 is slidably supported to the frames 6, and a chair back frame 14 is rotatably provided. A pair of cross members 18 rotatably coupled at one ends to one of the frames 6 and at the others to the member 10 are opened or closed by erecting or retracting of the frame 14, the member 10 is slid in cooperation with the opening or closing of the members 18. Thus, the frames 6 are enlarged or contracted so that the wheelchair 1 is simultaneously folded in vertical and widthwise directions.
