To obtain a food and drink or a feed capable of readily ingesting or utilizing components derived from a cell having a cell wall and useful for the nutrition or the food industry and further useful for humans or animals such as other mammals or fishes by including a chemically fixed cell freed of a part or all of the cell wall.
This food and drink or feed contains a chemically fixed cell freed of a part or all of the cell wall. For example, the food and drink or feed is obtained by culturing an edible microorganism belonging to the genera Saccharomyces, Candida, Kluyveromyces, or the like, providing a raw material cell, then suspending the resultant cell in a proper buffer solution so as not to burst the cell, adding a cell wall lytic enzyme such as a protease thereto, removing the cell wall, affording the cell free of the cell wall, subsequently chemically fixing the prepared cell with formaldehyde, on the like, recovering the fixed cell by centrifugation, or the like, and using the resultant cell.
