PURPOSE: To obtain a glass lens of high-quality excellent in shape accuracy, etc., by press forming of a glass gob while heating the gob from the surroundings of a mold using an induction heating means in such a state that the gob is in contact with the molding surface of an upper mold and that of a lower mold.

CONSTITUTION: An induction heating means 5 is arranged around a forming tool 4 having an upper mold 15 and a lower one 14. A glass gob 13 is heated from the surroundings of the forming tool 4 using the induction heating means 5 in such a state that the gob 13 is in contact with the upper molding surface 15a and the lower molding surface 14a. The glass gob 13 is subjected to press forming by the upper molding 15 and the lower one 14 at the desired temperature to produce a glass lens. Thereby heat is equally transferred to the glass gob 13 from the upper mold 15 and the lower mold 14 by conduction and radiation and the gob 13 is uniformly heated. So the fluidity of the glass in press forming is uniformized and a glass lens with an accurate shape can be produced.
