Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a variable valve timing mechanism of a four-cycle internal combustion engine, which is excellent in high speed performance, and high in mecanical reliability.
CONSTITUTION: Two low speed rocker arms 4 and one high speed rocker arm 7 are set up in two intake and exhaust valves 19, 19. In addition, a connecting and separating shaft 16, having these three rocker arms 4 and 7 interlocked and separately operated, is built in the inner part of a rocker arm shaft 9. Moreover, two connectors 10, 11 are pierced through to ward a center shaft 26 of these shafts 9 and 16 from each surface of these rocker arms. Then, the connecting and separating shafts 16 is slid in the rocker arm shaft 19, through which each on-off timing of these two inlet and exhaust valves 19 is selected to two steps for low or high speed owing to an interaction between two-type slits 17, 18 set up on a surface of the shaft 16 and the connectors 10, 11.
