PURPOSE: To efficiently perform the absorption operation of particles to be irradiated by providing the following: an electro-optic element which sweeps the frequency of a laser beam on the basis of an output voltage from a power amplifier; and a timing control means which controls the timing operation of a first laser device and the power amplifier.
CONSTITUTION: The oscillation timing operation of a laser device 7 for excitation use and the control timing operation of a power amplifier 3A are controlled independently of each other at a timing control circuit 6; the timing operation of a laser beam La which is incident on an electro-optic element 2 and the timing operation of a voltage Vx which is applied to the electro-optic element 2 are matched finally. That is to say, even when the pulse width of the laser beam La is short, the laser beam La can be frequency-swept by matching the timing operation of the voltage to be applied to the electro-optic element 2. Thereby, the frequency of a laser output beam Lb coincides with the absorption frequency of particles 5 to be irradiated, and an absorption operation can be performed with high efficiency.
