To provide a fuel cell of a type for directly supplying air and cooling water to the side of an air electrode, capable of supplying sufficient air to the air electrode, of sufficiently cooling the air electrode, of properly keeping a humid state of a membrane and of simplifying a structure.
This fuel cell is composed by stacking, by interposing separators, a plurality of unit cells each provided with a porous fuel electrode and an air electrode on both sides of an electrolyte membrane. The separator has a porous conductive material with multiple holes transmitting a mixed flow of the air and water formed therein; and at least the air electrode out of both the electrodes of the unit cell is provided with: a diffusion layer nucleus part diffusing the air; and a water-repellent layer formed on the separator side of the diffusion layer nucleus part for selectively transmitting only the air from the mixed flow.
