To provide a fuel cell system which can change an output current to increase while maintaining stable combustion in a combustion section.
In a fuel cell system, an output current is adjusted by output adjustment means L according to a characteristic curve having the target value of a fuel utilization rate defined as a function of the output current, and the amount of fuel gas supplied from a reformer 3 to an anode 24 is adjusted by fuel gas supply amount adjustment means F. When the output current of the fuel cell system is changed to increase toward a target current, the action of the fuel gas supply amount adjustment means F is controlled so that the amount of fuel gas supplied from the reformer 3 is increased and, after the fuel utilization rate is reduced below the target value of a fuel utilization rate at start of the increase which is defined by the characteristic curve, the actions of the output adjustment means L and the fuel gas supply amount adjustment means F are controlled according to the target current and the characteristic curve so that the output current and the fuel utilization rate change toward the target value of a utilization rate at completion of the increase which is defined by the function of the target current.
