To provide a fuel cell having improved output performance, especially a compact liquid fuel direct supply type fuel cell.
The fuel cell includes a membrane/electrode assembly 1 including an anode 6 that includes an anode catalytic layer 11, and an anode gas diffusion layer 12 provided on one surface of the anode catalytic layer, a cathode 5 that includes a cathode catalytic layer 8, and a cathode gas diffusion layer 9 provided on one surface of the cathode catalytic layer, and an electrolyte membrane 7 disposed between the anode catalytic layer 11 and the cathode catalytic layer 8. In the fuel cell, at least one of the anode catalytic layer 11 and the cathode catalytic layer 8 includes a noble metal weight density of not less than 0.2 g/cc and not more than 0.8 g/cc satisfying the following formula (1), 1≤(Ta/Tc), where Tc is a thickness of the cathode catalytic layer and Ta is a thickness of the anode catalytic layer.
