PURPOSE: To prevent the fuel injection through the first fuel injection valve from being impaired by the pressure in a cylinder by performing the fuel injection only through the first fuel injection valve injecting the fuel directly into the cylinder when the injection completion timing is relatively early.

CONSTITUTION: The first fuel injection valve 11 injecting the fuel directly into a cylinder is provided on each cylinder of an engine 1, and the second fuel injection valve 12 is provided on an intake passage 13 communicated to the intake port 7 of each cylinder. A control unit 22 calculates the injection completion timing and the timing when the pressure in the cylinder affecting the first fuel injection valve 11 becomes the preset pressure at least not exceeding the injection pressure and compares both of them. When the injection completion timing is relatively early, the fuel injection is performed through only the first fuel injection valve 11, when the injection completion timing is later than the preset timing, the fuel injection is performed through only the second fuel injection valve 12 or both fuel injection valves 11, 12. Accordingly, the fuel injection through the first fuel injection valve 11 is prevented from being impaired by the pressure in the cylinder, and the adequate fuel injection is performed.
