PURPOSE: To prevent excessive deflection of a timer piston by certainly closing the fuel passage when a reaction force is applied to a drive cam from a follower can without causing drop of the durability and responsiveness of an opening/ closing valve operated with current feed.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel injection pump 13 is structured so that a plunger 22 is rotated and reciprocated by a cam mechanism 25 having a face cam 24a and cam roller 29 and that the fuel is supplied to a fuel injection valve 12, wherein a timing control valve(TCV) 54 to adjust the internal fuel pressure of a high pressure chamber 46 is installed on the way of a fuel passage 53 leading from a high pressure chamber 46 to low pressure chamber 45 of a timer device 42. The passage 53 is opened with current feed, and is closed when the current feed is stopped. A drive shaft 17 is equipped with a rotary valve mechanism which is to close the passage 53 in the period that the face cam 24a gets on the cam roller 29 and the plunger 22 moves in the direction of pressurizing the fuel, at least when the fuel is supplied to the fuel injection valve 12.
