PURPOSE: To enable rapid pressure reduction and to prevent an uncontrollable escape of fuel by inserting a flow limiting valve into each high pressure line and delivery line for limiting a maximum fuel flow quantity.
CONSTITUTION: A high-pressure fuel pump 1 forcibly feeds fuel at high pressure from a low pressure chamber 7 via a suction line 5 having a filter 3 and a delivery line 9 to two high pressure accumulation chambers 11 arranged parallel to each other, the low pressure chamber 7 serving as a fuel tank. Further, a high pressure line 21 is brought out of the high pressure accumulation chambers 11 into individual injection valves 23 protruding into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion chamber to be supplied with the fuel. The high pressure line 21 or the delivery line 9 is provided with a flow limiting valve 27 and is set to cooperate with standing pressure in the high pressure line 21 or the high pressure collection chambers 11 at an admissible maximum flow quantity to hold the flow limiting valve 27 open. However, in the event of a breach of the high pressure line 21 or the delivery line 9, the flow limiting valve 27 is closed to avoid an uncontrollable escape of fuel from the place of leakage.
