PURPOSE: To prevent generation of soot in a fuel reforming apparatus and to facilitate fuel supplying operation, by separating condensate of reformed gas by cooling the same, and then recirculating the reformate to the fuel reforming apparatus according to predetermined conditions.

CONSTITUTION: A fuel reforming apparatus of this invention comprises a gas cooler 20 for causing heat exhange between a liquid fuel passed through a fuel pipe 13 and reformed gas passed through a gas pipe 19. The fuel pipe 13 and the gas pipe 19 are connected together via a condensation tank 21 and a recirculating valve 22 at a position downstreams of the gas cooler 20. The recirculating valve 22 is normally closed so that condensed liquid produced in the gas cooler 20 is stored in the condensate tank 21. With such as arrangement, whenit is detected by a temperature sensor 23 in a modifier 12 that the temperature of the modifier 12 has become higher than a prescribed value or it is detected by liquid-level sensor 24 in the condensation tank 21 that the amount of condensate in the tank 21 has exceeded prescribed value, the recirculating valve 22 is opened by a control circuit 25 to admix the condensate into fuel supplied to the reforming apparatus 12 through the fuel pipe 13.
