PURPOSE: To obtain the title improver capable of alleviating and curing disorders of various functions caused by stresses, comprising an extract having high polarity extracted from Cnidii monnieri Fructus or a benzofuran contained in the extract as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: At least one selected from an extract having high polarity obtained by extracting fruit of Cnidii monnieri Fructus with an extraction solvent comprising water or a hydrous organic solvent and removing the extraction solvent, or a compound shown by the formula (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is H or β-D-glucopyranosyl) contained in the extract and a glycoside thereof as an active ingredient. The compound shown by the formula is obtained by dissolving the extract in water, subjecting to column chromatography using a porous styrene-based resin and to column chromatography using a filler such as higher alkylsilanol resin, Sephadex or silica gel. The improver is useful as vitalizing agent, tonic and psychomimetic agent.
