PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject release body stably mixable regardless of shape and use of preparation, automatically oxidizable with oxygen in air, releasing a functional substance for a long period of time by using a specific carbonyl- containing compound.
SOLUTION: This functional substance release body uses a compound of formula I [OR1 is a residue after removal of one hydrogen atom of a hydroxy group of a function substance containing the hydroxy group in the molecule; R2 is a (substituted) aryl, arylalkynyl, arylalkenyl or the like; a wavy line in the formula is an E isomer, a Z isomer or their mixture] (e.g. a compound of formula II, etc.). The compound of formula I is obtained by condensing (A) an alkoxyacetaldehyde of formula III with (B) an aromatic aldehyde of the formula R2-CHO in the presence of (C) a basic catalyst such as sodium hydroxide, sodium hydride, potassium-t-butoxide, n-butyllithium, etc. In the reaction, preferably the amount of the component C is 0.01-300 mol% based on the component A and the molar ratio of the component A to the component B is preferably 10:1 to 1:10.
