USE: Perfume or an intermediate for synthesizing other perfume compounds, having sweet camphor-like or citrus-like fragrance and flavor with improved durability, useful as a durable frangrance or flavor imparter or modifier for food and drink (including table luxuries), cosmetic, healthy or sanitary materials, drugs, etc.
PREPARATION: 5,5-Dimethyl-1-cylohexene-1-carbaldehyde shown by the formula V is hydrogenated in an organic solvent such as ethanol, etc., in the presence of a reducing agent such as NaBH4, etc., to form a compound shown by the formula IV, it is catalytically reacted with mesyl chloride in an organic solvent in the presence of a salt such as triethylamine, etc., to give a compound shown by the formula III. This compound is reacted with N,N-dimethylaminoacetonitrile in an organic solvent in the presence of an alkali such as K2CO3, etc., to give a compound shown by the formula II, which is reacted with an aqueous solution of AgNO3 to give a compound shown by the formula I.
