To provide gas barrier properties, extension barrier properties and adhesion with a base material even under high humidity by forming more than a plurality of layers comprising a cating layer which contains an inorganic tabular particle and a water-soluble polymer as constituent components and a layer comprising a metal oxide, on one of the faces of a thermoplastic resin base material.
A coating comprising a particle which forms a tabular particle of an extremely thin units crystal layer and a copolymer polyvinyl alcohol made up of polyvinyl alcohol with a degree of saponifiecation of 80 mol.% or more and a vinyl alcohol unit of 60% or more, is formed on one of the faces of a biaxially orientated thermoplastic base material. In addition, the moisture content of the coating is 3 mg/cm3 or less. Further, the formation of the coating on the surface of the layer comprising a metal and/or a metal oxide on one of the faces, is preferable from the viewpoint of gas barrier properties, adhesion, especially extension barrier properties and printability. The metal and the metal oxide to be preferably used are aluminum, silicon, zinc and magnesium.
