Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cooling efficiency of a gas cooled type dielectric barrier discharge lamp.
SOLUTION: A discharge chamber is formed by filling a rare gas between an outside tube 3 and an inside tube 2 coaxial with each other and formed of a cylindrical dielectric for transmitting the ultraviolet rays, and a cylindrical metal pipe 4 having a diameter narrower than the inside tube 2 is provided in the discharge chamber at the center shaft side. The cooling compressed gas is injected vertically towards the center shaft sidewall of the discharge chamber from multiple small holes 7 provided in metal pipe 4. Since the cooling gas is injected at right angles with respect to the inside tube 2 of a dielectric barrier discharge lamp, cooling effect is improved in comparison with a method of flowing the cooling gas in parallel with the discharge chamber wall. Furthermore, since the insulating thermal expansion effect is utilized, the temperature of the cooling gas is lowered and the cooling effect is improved further.
