To provide a gear oil composition resistant to higher temperatures and withstanding operation under a higher load together with a tendency to a higher speed and a higher output as a gear oil in response to high efficiency and low cost because of requests for gears used for various kinds of industrial machines, specifically a gear oil having excellent sludge resistant performances and water-separating properties.
The gear oil composition is obtained by including a dispersible type viscosity index improver as an essential ingredient in at least one kind selected from mineral oils, oils and fats and synthetic oils as a base oil. A dispersible type polymethacrylate having 5,000-100,000 number-average molecular weight, a dispersible type styrene-maleic anhydride ester copolymer having 5,000-100,000 number-average molecular weight, a dispersible type olefin copolymer having 5,000-100,000 number-average molecular weight, a dispersible type olefin-methacrylate copolymer having 5,000-100,000 number-average molecular weight and a mixture thereof, etc., are preferably used as the dispersible type viscosity index improver from the viewpoint of especially excellent inhibitory effects on sludge formation.
