To provide a method for detecting deposits in a glass melting furnace which can efficiently grasp the deposition conditions of deposits deposited in a glass melting furnace, and to provide a glass melting furnace.
In the glass melting furnace 1 composed in such a manner that a molten glass G can be stored in a melting space 11 formed by a refractory brick, and the stored molten glass G is exhausted from a flow-down nozzle 19 connected to a deriving part 11A at the lower part of the melting space, the furnace includes a deposit detection means 20 having: an emission part 21 emitting electromagnetic waves; receiving parts 23A, 23B receiving electromagnetic waves emitted from the emission part 21; and a detection part, and detects deposits in the melting space. by receiving the electromagnetic waves emitted from the emission part 21 at the receiving parts 23A, 23B.
