Title:
GLASS SEALING METHOD TO METAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59156943
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
Heat sealing of metal alloy to glass in the production of electronic components is carried out by the conventional cycle of operations which includes (1) degassing or decarburizing under non-oxidising conditions, (2) oxidation of the metal element and (3) sealing of the oxidised alloy to a glass component. To assure production of high quality seals of good strength and hermeticity, the oxidation is carried out in a furnace, preferably in a controlled atmosphere of gaseous carrier and oxidizing agents containing free hydrogen, under conditions so as to consistently obtain an intergranular predominantly Fe3O4 deposition in the metal at a depth of at least 2 microns.
