Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glow plug which has a typical excess rise prevention type temperature rise characteristic, in which an outer diameter of a seath tube is reduced by 5 mm or less.
SOLUTION: In a glow plug a sheath heater 2 includes a sheath tube 11 with its tip end side closed, a heating coil 21 disposed on the tip end side of the sheath tube 11 in a protruded portion from a main metal fitment 3 of the sheath tube 11, and a control coil 23 which is connected in series with a rear side of the heating coil 21 and receives heat from the heating coil 21 to increase electric resistance and hence control power supply to the heating coil 21. A protrusion of the sheath tube 11 is adapted as having substantially uniform axial cross sectional diameter in a range of from 3.0 to 4.4 mm. Hereby, a temperature rise characteristic on a tip end surface of the sheath tube 11 is adapted such that it has peak temperature at an initial stage of the power supply and is saturated at the peak temperature or lower.
