PURPOSE: To retrieve a basic graphic element from a storage section and to display a retrieved basic graphic element group in another location of a display section, and then, to easily define a graphic whose use is limited to specific fields, by indicating a newly formed graphic element displayed on the display section from an input section.

CONSTITUTION: A basic graphic element is inputted from the input section 11 of a graphic input device and whether the data is indicated in terms of command or not is discriminated at an inputted data analyzing section 12. When the data is indicated in terms of command the data are sent to a command retrieving section 13. At the retrieving section 13, the command data at the picture location of a command storage section 14 is referred to and the command data is added to a graphic editing section 15. Then, in accordance with the input of location data from the input section 11, a basic graphic element group is edited at the graphic editing section 15 and displayed on a display section 16. At the same time, the edited basic graphic element group is stored in a graphic storage section 17. Furthermore, input data is added to a command registering section 18 by operating the function key of the input section 11 and location designation is performed by the display section, and then, the storage section 17 is retrieved by the registering section 18. Thus a graphic form is registered.
