PURPOSE: To maintain an adequate grid interval in each part of a grid substrate without deteriorating excellent current collecting efficiency owing to radially extending slant bars.

CONSTITUTION: A grid substrate for a storage battery comprises an intermediate grid 4 constituted of a plurality of lateral bars 1 crossing a plurality of radially extending slant bars 3, an outer frame 5 surrounding the intermediate grid 4, and a lug 6 projecting at the upper end of the outer frame 5. An interval between the upper portion of the grid substrate and the lateral bar 1 is larger than that between the lower portion and the bar 1, or the number of the slant bars 3 is reduced and at least the lateral bar 1 in the boundary between the upper and lower portions is formed thicker than the lateral bar 1 and the slant bar 3. Otherwise, an interval between the upper portion of the grid substrate and the lateral bar 1 is larger than that between the lower portion and the bar 1 in the grid substrate for the storage battery, or the number of the slant bars 3 is reduced and the plurality of lateral bars 1 and slant bars 3 are formed thick at predetermined intervals.
